This months Evans Tuning feature car is owned by Drew Banghart from the Alpha Racing crew out of New Jersey. Drew was at once an avid auto crosser and bracket racer, but being bitten by the drag race bug he decided to try his hand in building a competitive drag car. His first attempt over two years ago left him with a spun bearing, and an empty wallet with a 10.5 @ 139mph time slip. After taking some time off from the sport, he recently decided to put his aspirations to be competitive aside and focused on his personal goal of running 9's in a streetable package. Evans Tuning worked with him to pick the necessary components to reach his goals. An Evans Tuning Stage 3 bottom end package was put together, as well as a new Precision T4/T67 ball bearing turbo, s300 engine management and revised fuel system. With the idea of simplicity and functionality in mind, the car was rebuilt and retuned. The car made 660whp at 22psi, and 760 at 27psi on C16 racing fuel. With injector duty cycle over 90%, tuning was ended until more fuel was available. With the Hondata s300 engine management controlling the boost, the first pass off the trailer at the Summer Slam event held at Englishtown Raceway, the car ran 10.33 @ 143.67 mph at 22 psi. The next pass the tune and boost was changed, and the car went 0.2 seconds faster to the 1000 ft mark and broke 4th gear coasting to a 10.4 @ 120mph. Some gearing changes are currently being made, as well as full throttle shift being used (boost was dropping substantially between shifts). Check back for updates of this car/owner hitting its 9 second goal in the very near future. *Update. Car went 10.12 @ 148 mph at 27psi. Still has more left in the tune, getting closer to 9's. *Update. Car went 10.008 @ 153 mph at 29psi at Honda Day Atco, NJ. Still has more left in the tune and boost (35psi).
