Last night Hondata released information on their new Coil Pack Retrofit (CPR) slated for release in June 2011. The CPR works with the S300 system to deliver a simple solution for running individual coils on a B/D/H/F-Series motor. The CPR doesn’t include the coils (which cost about $60 per coil) but we’ve done the work to get you the best deal possible on them.

Evans Tuning is offering a PRE-ORDER SPECIAL for the new CPR. The pre-order includes the Coil Pack Retrofit and the option to purchase the coils as well as the recommended seals at discounted rates. We’ve also thrown in an option for a FREE set of NGK-BKR7E Spark Plugs! BUY NOW!

Below is the information supplied from from Hondata:

Overview
The Hondata Coil Pack Retrofit (CPR) allows the use of ‘coil on plug’ individual ignition coils on engines with distributor based ignition systems (D, B, F and H series Honda engines). It does this by replacing the stock coil and ignition with an electronic circuit which can drive igniter type individual ignition coils, such as used on later model Honda engines. A Hondata S300 system is required.

What does it come with?
The Hondata CPR comes with a wiring harness for your coil packs, a coil pack controller and fly leads for connecting to your distributor and ECU. The CPR is typically positioned next to the ECU inside the car.

Benefits:
-More spark energy than a single coil, allowing a larger plug gap and fewer misfires
-Individual coils are more durable and less likely to fail than the stock igniter and coil
-No exposed plug leads results in less interference to other electronics on the vehicle
-The Coil Pack Retrofit can drive a CDI controller if desired

Requirements:
-Hondata S300 system (not included)
-4 x coils, Honda part number 30520-PVF-A01 (approx $60 retail and not included)

Optional Parts:
-4 x coil seals, Honda part number 30522-RNA-A01 (approx $19 retail)
-These coil seals provide a tighter fit than those supplied with the 30520-PVF-A01 coils

Notes:
-Resistor plugs must be used
-The coils require a method of retention. B16A, B18C & F22A engines may use the stock plug cover. Other engines require an alternative method of coil retention (not supplied)
-This is a race product. Cranking times may be increased over a stock ignition set up
-For detailed installation instructions click here

Happy New Year! Last year was full of exciting news and updates from Evans Tuning and we certainly have plans to stay on that same exciting path in 2011. Everything from eTuning (our hottest new addition to the tuning services lineup) to our brand new Dyno Database (currently made up of over 670 dynos – it is the world’s largest online dyno graph database) has kept us extremely busy. As one of the most cutting edge tuning shops in the country, we always make improvements and advancements over previous years, and we feel we really have some new and exciting things lined up for this year that will blow you away. Although there are too many things coming throughout the next 12 months to list in detail, we wanted to take a moment to give everyone just a small sampling of what’s to come.

Hybrid EMS
Perhaps our most exciting new development for 2011 will be our new Hybrid EMS! The Hybrid EMS will be able to retain full OBD-2 functionality when tuning with a standalone (more details coming soon). There are endless possibilities to where this can lead; and needless to say, we are very excited. Production will begin with the AP1 S2000 and hopefully branch out shortly to many other makes and models.

Technical Support Updates
For years we have been providing the industry’s best email-based technical support. We respond fast (usually within 24 hours) and effectively to virtually every email we receive (that’s upwards of 15,000 emails in 2010). Because of the burden that email support places on some of our customers, we’ve been working on a better way to help service everyone. We’re creating new internal systems and although we are not ready yet, we will soon be offering limited technical support over the phone.

Dyno Database
If you’ve been following our posts on Facebook and Twitter you have undoubtedly seen all of the updates in the brand new Dyno Database toward the end of 2010. In 2011 we have many more updates planned for the Dyno Database. For starters, we’ll be breaking down more sorting options and adding a video of dyno runs!

Labor Services
Toward the end of 2010 we added 3 new labor services. We are now offering Performance Modifications, Transmission Builds, and Corner Balancing & Alignment services. Although we have been performing these services on a very limited basis for several years, we are now offering them to all. In 2011 we have a few more services we plan to add – details to come.

Web Site Updates
Last year we made huge strides in our web site design and online presence. This year we are starting off with redesigned page layouts and updated information in our Dyno Tuning section, and creating an entirely new set of pages detailing the Hybrid EMS system. Later this year we plan to revisit our home page and make some updates to the more static sections of our web site.

Consultations
Sometimes it’s just easier to bring your car to the shop before you build it. Later this year we’ll start offering personalized recommendations for your setup when you schedule a consultation at our shop.

The Evans Tuning Race Car
Late in 2010 we started building a new shop race car. We’re pretty excited about it and hope to have it done very early this year with dyno numbers and then track times once the tracks open up!

Garrett has just released their new line of GTX (also called GTX-R) turbos that are a drop in replacement for the current 3071R and larger sized turbos!

The new GTX line up boasts 10-15% increased compressor efficiency which results in huge power gains. The key to the GTX compressor wheel is the increased efficiency without increased size (inducer/exducer) in a billet material configuration, so the turbo is able to move more airflow (CFM) and retain the same spool characteristics as the same size GT equivalent turbo. The new GTX 3071R is now able to offer 50-60 hp more from the same size turbo, with no other changes being made! The larger GTX turbos such as the GTX4202 can offer an additional 200hp+ in gains with no loss of spool!

While there are other companies offering billet compressor turbos, they are far from reliable. Get the same high quality and reliability you expect from the Garrett GT line-up, but with more power. We are offering the GTX line up in a wide array of turbine housing options, and even have a 72mm specific drag race “special” GTX turbo that is able to support 1200whp+.

For years we have been posting the dyno graphs from just about every tuning session we’ve had. The reasoning is simple: you deserve it, we are proud of our work, and we feel that a resource for dyno graphs has helped us learn by repetition the setups that do and do not produce desirable results. For years we have added to our collection of graphs and recently found that we have added over 700 dyno graphs and setups to our forums.

Along with many other things, we have been focusing on the simplicity and functionality of our web site and we were forced to re-evaluate our dyno graph section. Needless to say, the unorganized jumble of graphs led us to the conclusion that something needed to be done. After all, the dyno section is the third most popular section of the site after the home page and online store.

The answer wasn’t too difficult. We needed to create a simple and effective solution that would make browsing the graphs easy and painless. We feel we have been able to do just that with the launch of our new Dyno Database, the world’s largest online dyno graph database.

We’ve started with general yet useful categories. As time goes on we’ll be adding more categories to sort with so you can find exactly what you’re looking for. We know you’re going to love the new functionality of the dyno section, but for now we’re going to leave our old dyno library open which you can navigate to through our forums.

That’s all there is to it. So stop reading and start browsing now!
If you plan to have your car tuned before October’s Outlaw Race you should absolutely have it booked as far in advance as you possibly can to make sure we still have slots available! Now, here is why I say that…

Usually at the beginning of race season, we make a post informing everyone that our schedule is starting to fill quickly. We do this every year to help everyone become more aware of the availability and have even started posting updates to Facebook and Twitter throughout the year of when we are booking. One of our largest complaints from customers has been our 2-3 month wait times. After streamlining the systems we tune, and adding eTuning to our repertoire of tuning services, we have successfully kept that wait time under 2 months in 2010.

However, one of the most anticipated races of 2010 will be October’s Outlaw Race taking place at Englishtown’s Old Bridge Raceway Park on the 9th and 10th. As with any race, we expect our calendar to fill up fast with appointments in the few weeks leading up to the weekend. We try to fit as many tunes as possible into the schedule to accommodate the influx of appointments and work overtime sometimes scheduling up to 3 tunes in a single day. Unfortunately, there just aren’t enough hours in the day to fit everyone, and we end up having to turn some folks away in the weeks leading up to a big race.

The closer it gets to race day, the more magnified the problem becomes. We fill in appointments just about every day for daily drivers and road course cars that are not coming in to be tuned for an event like the Outlaw Race. Just two weeks ago we had a lot of calls from customers who wanted to be tuned before Honda Day. Unfortunately, we rarely have any appointments a week ahead of time and were already booking almost a month beyond Honda Day. On more than one occasion we’ve seen the appointments in the final week before a race be predominately for daily drivers, and cars that will not be and have no intention of heading to the track. Most of these cars are in no serious rush to have their setups tuned, however the owners have made plans to get to the cars down to us on those days and can not afford to change them.

Most of this issue can be avoided by booking your appointments early! If you know that you will be running at the Outlaw Race in October, give us a call as soon as possible or schedule your appointment online and make sure that we can get your car in and ready for the track. We look forward to the race and we hope to see everyone there!

Evans Tuning’s Annual Car Meet (etMeet 2010) is just a few weeks away. I could clutter this post with the details of the meet, but you can find those here. Instead I want to take a minute to reflect on our past efforts and what to expect this year.

2008
In 2008, Evans Tuning held the first ever “annual” etMeet. It was extremely hot that day, Andrea was pregnant, turnout was huge, and there was leftover food for weeks. Needless to say, we were unprepared to capture the event and share it online afterward. Lucky for us, most of our attendees brought their cameras and took a large number of photos which were since spread all over the web in a relatively unorganized fashion (maybe not so lucky for us).

2009
Last year at etMeet 2009 we had an eventful day planned, and were relatively well organized (compared to 2008). Checkin went smooth as opposed to the hour long line of people checking in for the 2008 meet. Food was served quickly and the effectiveness of our meet staff was rather impressive (you would think we do this more than 1 time a year). Andrea was not pregnant this time around making the load a little lighter on everyone, and we had awesome giveaways planned (something we really didn’t do in 2008). Unfortunately, the threat of rain kept many from coming out, and the eventual storm drove home most of the attendees.

2010
So how does 2010 get better? Well obviously the rain holding off will be a big help so hopefully that is one battle we won’t need to fight. We plan to really document the meet well this year with photos, and on social networks. We’ve started a Twitter hashtag for attendees to share what is going on at the meet, an event page on Facebook for attendees to post photos from the meet, and we encourage everyone to link us to any video footage shot at this year’s meet (see below for more details).

Giveaways & Food
We will be doing some giveaways but we aren’t quite ready to announce the exact details on that. We’ll do a raffle as well this year but we’re not 100% certain of the product option yet. Food will be just as delicious as it’s been in previous years, and we’ll try to keep pricing as cheap as possible.

People and Parts
The primary goal of the meet is to make it enjoyable for everyone who attends. We’re likely to have a large S2000 and 8th Generation Civic crowd out for the day as the close to 100 sign-ups already show those cars in the majority. Jeff will be available at the parts table to chat, answer questions, meet people, and give you great deals. We’ll have a variety of parts in stock for the meet that we find our customers are most commonly looking for, as well as some used parts for awesome deals that have been hanging out around the shop.

Have questions?
If you have any specific questions about the event first refer to the official sign-up page here, and then email phil@evans-tuning.com.

We hope to see you there!

Since we have started eTuning it has become very popular with a lot of our FlashPro and KPro customers. We’ve taken the time to add a new eTuning section to our web site under the current Tuning section (which now is broken down into sections for both Dyno Tuning and eTuning).

We’re excited to have this new section added to our site, and we hope it answers many of the questions we have received so far. The eTuning section will also stay updated as we add more cars that are able to be eTuned. Here are a list of the new pages:
